Founded in 2012 to foster Latino Arts and Culture in the state of Colorado. Their programming, classes, and events bring awareness of cultural identity, education and leadership while learning about Latino culture, music and dance. Barrio E’ co- produces the Colorado Latino Festival, Encuentro de Tambores and World Drum
Jam among other musical productions to expose Latino artists in the area, and advocates for the advancement in equity for Latinos in the arts.
The performance group is a community project where any individual interested in Puerto Rican Bomba can participate. Bomba is musical genre of oral tradition with a community dynamic involving percussionists, dancers and singers. A particularity of Bomba is the challenge between the drummer (primo) and the dancer, providing a
synchronized beat to a series of body movements (piquetes), while a “call and response” pattern in the songs provides for an inclusive environment. We can discover a diversity of historical influences in Bomba with more than 500 years of legacy.
