Penitents: World End Rituals of Faith

June 22nd, 2017 – September 17th, 2017

Guy Veloso’s images capture a moment in time where faith, consciousness, and cuerpo become one through rituals. The photographic documentation of the rituals disrupts our contemporary urban reality, summoning another more ancient reality to action at the world’s end. As we experience Veloso’s reality, we become penitents ourselves albeit from different hemispheres.

This exhibition is in conjunction with the Biennial of the Americas 2017

Las (H)adas

October 12th, 2017 – January 14th, 2018

Las Adas explores cultural connections linked to the idea of identity and bicultural influences. Exploring this process unveils for us how far our postcolonial, consumerized mind has distanced itself from our humanity: sacred, magical, and divine.

In Spanish, las hadas means the fairies, but ‘adas’ is a suffix which signifies gender in an action verb. The title of the exhibit has two meanings. The artists featured are local fairy godmothers of Latino art and culture, but they are also ____-adas.
