Lecture by Valery Taylor, Spanish Colonial Art Dealer, Art Historian, and Lecturer.
Please join us for an intriguing discussion of the works of Jose Campeche (1751-1809), one of Latin America’s most admired
portrait painters (or retratistas) of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Living in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Campeche painted
portraits of many of Puerto Rico’s noble families, military officers, prominent politicians, merchants, and others. His works
are displayed in museums throughout the United States and Latin America. Valery Taylor will discuss the life, times and
extensive works of Sr. Campeche.
