Dr. Lyall will speak on a Maya monument in the collection of the Denver Art Museum. The carved stone monument depicts a man standing in profile wearing a long cape and framed by a double column of glyphs in front and a single column of glyphs above his head. Dr. Lyall will address the content of the monument, propose a place of origin and discuss the challenges in stewarding objects in collections with conservation issues. She will also consider the institution’s responsibility in presenting an object’s journey from site to gallery.
